Marla was destined to become an innkeeper. She decided 25 years ago that this is what she wanted to do. She loved of the experience of being pampered at a bed and breakfast and knew that she would excel in the role of innkeeper. It would be a culmination of her passions for meeting and talking with people, decorating, antiquing, historic houses and cooking. Together with Joe’s business acumen and computer expertise, they are a winning team! |
In December, 2006 Marla and Joe began the process of converting their home from private residence to an award winning, top-ranked business proposition. After getting a zoning deviation, site plans drawn up and approved, updating plumbing and wiring, expanding bathrooms, purchasing supplies, getting signs made and developing websites, brochures, etc., we opened to a full house. The entire process took just four months, which by industry standards is record speed.
The Queen’s Residence is a full service, high end bed and breakfast. We are proud of the fact that we won an award from B & B.com for being “one of the 10 best B & B’s in the Great Lakes Region” just 18 months after we opened our doors. At the time we received this award we were the newest of 14 B & B’s in our area; none of which had ever gotten such an award (and still have not!).

We got the idea to franchise from a guest. While many guests tell us they would “love to open a bed and breakfast”, usually with a sigh, one guest actually said, “If you were in other places, I’d never stay anywhere else”. That is when the light bulb went off, and here we are, ready and willing to help you get started!
